Biblioteca de Ca l’Altisent

The rehabilitation of the Ca l’Altisent building to turn it into a public library allows the city to open its garden and access the Font del Rector. The building of the secondary annexed bodies is released and only its main body, composed of ground floor and upper floor, and the tower, which is a point of reference from a distance, is preserved. On the facade, where the textures of the construction techniques used in the different phases and extensions reappear, a homogeneous paint treatment is carried out that gives unity to the whole and integrates all the original construction and decorative elements: mouldings, cornices, corners and railings The ground floor of the original building is intended for reception and promotions space, and around it are built the spaces necessary for the functional program of a small library, with natural light thanks to a patio next to the rear median and the glazed facade.
The new public square, where there used to be a private garden, is part of an itinerary that leads to the Font del Rector gardens, a natural space revegetated with native species that follows the level curves and connects the two banks of the torrent with a new platform. The rehabilitation of Ca l’Altisent has made possible the design of a new urban route that connects the town hall and church plazas through the park and the new library’s plaza.
